Sport Initiative

The Sport Initiative integrates sport in the academic environment of the Stockholm School of Economics, strengthening the School’s knowledge environment and student experience. The initiative combines physical activity, industry engagement, and academic dialogue through lectures, forums, field trips, and sports activities.

Components

The SSE Sport Initiative is made up of four parts:

Activate - activities to stimulate the mind and body

Field Trips - visits to clubs, associations, and leagues

Activate

The Activate component consists of recurring sports activities organized primarily by the Student Association’s Sports Committee, as well as occasional activities organized by the Center for Sports and Business together with partner organizations.

Students can participate in weekly practices in sports such as basketball, cheerleading, football, tennis, and volleyball. Several teams also participate in tournaments both in Sweden and internationally, competing with other universities and business schools.

The purpose of Activate is to encourage physical activity among students, support wellbeing, and contribute to a sense of community at SSE.

Field Trips

FIELD TRIPS

The Field Trips component includes visits to sports clubs, federations, and professional leagues. Through the Center for Sports and Business’s collaborations with sports organizations, students can gain behind-the-scenes insights into how the sports industry operates.

Examples of field trip locations include Stockholm Olympic Stadium, 3 Arena, Avicii Arena, and Friends Arena.

The purpose of this component is to connect academic learning with practical insights from the sports industry.

Speaker Series

The Speaker Series invites industry experts, sports executives, and researchers to SSE to share perspectives on developments in the sports sector. Events include lunch lectures, breakfast seminars, and larger evening events.

Through the Center for Sports and Business’ international network of researchers and industry partners, students are exposed to both academic research and practical insights related to sport, business, and society.

The aim of the Speaker Series is to provide inspiration and broaden students’ understanding of the sports industry.

Forums

forums

Forums consist of conferences, panel discussions, and networking events that bring together researchers, industry experts, and students at SSE. These events create opportunities for dialogue about the future of sport and the role of research and innovation in the sector.

The Forums component also includes a career forum organized during Sports and Business Week, an annual event arranged in collaboration with the Student Association’s Sports Committee. The event enables students to meet partner organizations and explore career opportunities within the sports industry.

Goal

The goal of the SSE Sport Initiative is to embed sport within the SSE community through action-oriented activities that promote wellbeing, strengthen networks, and support learning. Physical activity and engagement with the sports sector contribute to a dynamic learning environment and help students develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, and collaboration.

Education and knowledge development are processes involving not only the mind but also the body and soul
