The Center for Migration and Integration Research conducts and disseminates cross-disciplinary social science research on how migration regimes and regulations, business models and working conditions, and social and professional networks interact to shape integration and social sustainability.

Research

CMIR conducts interdisciplinary social science research on migration and integration. The center’s research addresses issues such as migration governance, labor markets, discrimination, social networks, and social sustainability, with a particular focus on the conditions that shape long-term integration and inclusion. Together, the projects combine empirical research with perspectives relevant to policy, organizations, and society.

Sustainable integration depends on the interplay between rights and responsibilities, labor conditions, and social inclusion.

The center promotes multi-stakeholder collaboration between various actors in the migration and integration chain to generate, develop, and disseminate science-based knowledge.

CMIR also serves as a platform for collaboration on the sustainable integration of third-country nationals in Sweden. By bringing together researchers and key stakeholders across sectors, the center incorporates practical experiences and insights into a systemic perspective aimed at developing collective solutions. Alongside labor market inclusion, CMIR focuses on broader dimensions of sustainable integration, including the factors that enable participation, belonging, and long-term inclusion.

The Center is funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), and co-funded by the European Union.
