Congratulations, Dr. Fanny Almersson
A remarkable academic achievement and an important contribution to research on gender justice, accounting, and sport
The Center for Sports and Business is proud to congratulate Dr. Fanny Almersson, who successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Stockholm School of Economics on 12 June.
Her dissertation, Unfolding Justice: Towards an Integrative View of Accounting and Gender, explores how accounting shapes - and is shaped by - organizations' efforts to address gender injustice.
Based on an ethnographic study conducted in collaboration with Hammarby Fotboll, Fanny examines how the economic, cultural, and political dimensions of gender justice interact to influence organizational understandings of what is considered "just." Drawing on feminist theory, her research demonstrates that efforts to promote gender justice rarely unfold in linear or predictable ways, and highlights the important role accounting plays in these complex processes.
Since joining the Center for Sports and Business in 2018, Fanny has been a valued colleague and an active contributor to our research community. She has presented her work at conferences and seminars, enriched academic discussions within the Center, and supervised and supported numerous bachelor's and master's students throughout their thesis journeys.
By combining rigorous academic research with extensive experience from the world of football, Fanny's work advances important conversations on gender justice, accounting, and organizational change. It also deepens our understanding of sport as a setting where broader societal challenges are negotiated, experienced, and transformed.
We are incredibly proud of your achievement, Fanny, and grateful for everything you have contributed to the Center over the years.
Congratulations, Dr. Fanny Almersson!
We would also like to extend our warm congratulations to Professor Martin Carlsson-Wall for his dedicated supervision and invaluable support throughout Fanny's doctoral journey.
Our sincere thanks also go to the opponent, Professor Ioana Lupu, for an insightful and stimulating discussion of the dissertation, and to the members of the grading committee - Professor Kalle Kraus, Professor Claire Dambrin, and Professor Andreas Werr - for their thoughtful engagement and valuable feedback.
Finally, we would like to thank Hammarby Fotboll for an inspiring and rewarding collaboration throughout the research project.
