Scholarships

For non-EU/EEA/Swiss/Ukrainian citizens, SSE offers several half tuition fee waivers and a limited number of full tuition fee waivers. All scholarship applications are assessed by a selection committee, taking into consideration the relevance and the quality of the personal motivation, academic excellence, relevant extra-curricular activities, program cohort diversity and the distribution of scholarships across all programs. 

How to apply

The application for a scholarship is submitted during the application process for the BSc or MSc program, via our online application portal (please see the tab called "Scholarships" in the program application).

Write a motivational letter for the available funding, and if you would like, you can mention that you fulfil the requirements for a specific fund (see below). This will make the matching easier for us.  

Please note that your application for the scholarships is not going to have an impact on your application for the program. Scholarships are distributed on a merit and need basis and we take into consideration the fair distribution across the programs.

SSE Alumni want to contribute to the education of strong students with a diverse and underrepresented background.

Therefore, they will be providing seven Swedish Bachelor students with a scholarship of SEK 7,500 per month each for three years. The purpose is to cover living expenses for three years conditional upon satisfactory performance as determined by SSE.

The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco & Silicon Valley is looking for a proactive, ambitious, and results-oriented Events & Marketing Intern from SSE. The scholarship will finance one SSE student to work as the Events & Membership intern at the office of SACC SF/SV from early September to end of August. The Scholarship is 279,000 kr.

As an intern at SACC-SF/SV, students will have the unique opportunity to be part of the cutting-edge setting that is the Bay Area today. The dynamic team works much like a startup and provides everyone with the opportunity to explore different skill sets. The intern will be able to expand their professional network, gain new experience and advance their skills by working in a highly inspirational atmosphere and by meeting and collaborating with industry leaders and professionals in a variety of business sectors. An ideal applicant would have the following profile:

• Applicants must have completed their SSE BSc degree before the Scholarship period begins in September.

• International personal or working experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swedish
• Attention to details and others

• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, curious, and flexible attitude
• Service-minded
• Passionate about creating a member community
• Minimum 21 years old
• Be a Swedish citizen and be eligible for a J-1 visa

Your application should include:

• A one-page CV in English
• Grade transcripts
• A 3-minute video addressing these three points in English:
  
  - The Hook: Give us a 45-second "elevator pitch" on who you are beyond your CV.
  - The Motivation: Why SACC SF/SV specifically? How do you plan to bridge the gap between Swedish business and the Valley?
  - The Grit: Tell us about a significant achievement or a "pivot" after a failure that you are incredibly proud of.

A quick tip: The Chamber is looking for personality and clarity over high-end production. A smartphone video works great, as long as your drive shines through! Please send the video in an unlisted YouTube link or share via Google Drive.

Each year the President of the Stockholm School of Economics personally hand-picks one or two outstanding students to realize a project of their own design abroad. The purpose of this is to equip these future leaders with the tools and experiences necessary to succeed, both in their studies at SSE as well as future careers.

Many previous GELS winners started out as management consultants and are now CEOs for large companies, entrepreneurs or leaders of large organizations. They work in countries ranging from Sweden and the US to Singapore and Vietnam, providing a global network. Their projects range from fast-food noodles to international aid coordination.

Coming up with a project of your own design and executing it in a foreign country will be both fun and challenging – while providing plenty of personal development. And by setting a clear goal for the impact you aim to achieve you get the chance to apply the theories you’ve learned at SSE in real life.

Minor Field Studies (MFS) is a scholarship program for field studies in developing countries. It is intended for students who are reaching the end of their BSc or MSc degree and who wish to gather material for their degree essay on-site in a developing country.

You are welcome to apply for a MFS scholarship if you:

• are a Swedish citizen or have a permanent residence permit in Sweden
• are studying at a university or university college in Sweden
• have not started doctoral (third cycle) level education
• have not previously received a MFS-scholarship

Two scholarships are available every year, exclusively for applicants from Eastern Europe (including Moldova, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia) and Türkiye.

The application process

The scholarship application is submitted together with the program application. All scholarship applications are assessed by a selection committee, taking into consideration the relevance and the quality of the personal motivation, academic excellence, relevant extracurricular activities, program cohort diversity and the distribution of scholarships across all programs. SSE distributes scholarship offers to our best candidates by the middle of March.

Please note that funding for additional expenses, such as living costs, is not included in this scholarship.

One scholarship is available for the academic year 2026/2027, exclusively for applicants from North America (citizens of the United States or Canada).

The American Friends of SSE (AFSSE) scholarship fully covers the tuition fee for the MSc program. Funding for additional expenses, such as living costs, is not included in the scholarship. The deadline for the application is January 15.

The application process

SSE awards a number of scholarships that are funded by generous private donations. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis for students admitted to one of our five MSc programs. The scholarship application is submitted together with the program application.

The Board of Insamlingsstiftelsen till Per Hillers Minne (The Foundation in Memory of Per Hiller) has established a new scholarship to reward outstanding study achievements of students in the Master program in Accounting, Valuation and Financial Management (MAVFM) and the Master program in Finance (MFIN).

Scholarship:

Up to five scholarships of SEK 50,000 each will be awarded to outstanding students in each of the two master programs. The scholarships are to be received in period 4 in the Spring semester of the first year of study. Based on recommendations by the Program Directors of MAVFM and MFIN, students who are nominated will be appointed by the SSE Student Scholarship Taskforce. The Master students do not have to apply for the award, but all eligible students will be considered by the Program Directors of MAVFM and MFIN.

Purpose:

To encourage and reward outstanding students who participate in an engaged way in the courses offered in the MAVFM and MFIN programs at Stockholm School of Economics. The awards will be based on the students’ study achievements in periods 1 to 3 in the first year of the respective Master program. Hence, the awards will enable ambitious and hard-working students to get a prestigious reward and acknowledgement for their study performance.

Selection criteria:

Students who receive the Per Hiller Outstanding Master Student Award have achieved outstanding study results in periods 1 to 3 during their first year in the MAVFM or MFIN programs at SSE.

The assessment of study results is based on the compulsory and voluntary courses offered in the MAVFM respective MFIN program, having a clear connection to the subject area of Financial Economics (in a broad sense). Also, nominated students will be recognized for their active participation and collaborative teamwork with fellow students in the program activities being offered in the respective Master program.

Announcement:

Master students receiving the Per Hiller Outstanding Master Student Award will be informed about this by the end of May in period 4 of their first year of study in the MAVFM and MFIN programs.

The Swedish Program and the Stockholm School of Economics offer a joint scholarship for the Swedish Program  alumni who choose to continue their studies joining one of the Master Programs at SSE. The SSE-Swedish Program Scholarship offers full tuition fees for one Swedish Program Alumni accepted to one of the Master Programs at SSE. The Swedish Program is an independent program, sponsored by a consortium of American colleges and Universities, and affiliated with the Stockholm School of Economics.  

Eligibility:

Have successfully graduated from the Swedish Program by the start of the MSc studies.

 The UniCredit Foundation offers one student of the MSc in Economics at SSE a scholarship. The recipient of the scholarship receives €15,000 per two academic years (in 3 instalments). 

Eligibility: 

Eligible applicants must be nationals of one of the EU or EEA countries included in the perimeter in which UniCredit operates (that is Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia). 

Application: 

A separate application for the scholarship is not necessary. On the basis of merit, and in accordance with the selection procedure for the MSc in Economics at SSE, the Department of Economics will nominate a shortlist of three potential recipients from all eligible applicants to the MSc program. These nominees will be contacted and asked for consent to forward their data to the UniCredit Foundation.The UniCredit Foundation will then choose the scholarship recipients from the shortlist.

Grosshandelssocieteten is a foundation within Stockholms Borgerskap. The main focus is to support entrepreneurship in the greater Stockholm area. 

The travel scholarship is for SSE students who will study or will have an internship for at least three months at a university or company abroad. It is possible to apply for the scholarship before being granted the studies abroad or an internship. Master/CEMS students will be given priority, but if spots are available, then Bachelor students will also be considered. 

Qualifications to apply 

• Applicants must have completed at least two years of studies at SSE at the Bachelor’s level
• Applicants currently enrolled in SSE's Master’s studies and the CEMS MIM program are given priority
• BSc students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 4.2
• Swedish citizenship is required
• The scholarship applies to studies abroad, traineeships, or internships during the autumn semester of the current year and the following spring semester

The scholarship may only be awarded once per applicant. You may apply for the scholarship even if a decision regarding approved studies or an internship has not yet been made. The scholarship must be granted before the trip begins

The application must be submitted by the beginning of March. An awarded scholarship must be used within 1.5 years from the date of award. Scholarship recipients are selected each year in April, following interviews with the applicants.

As a scholarship recipient, you are expected to share your experience by writing at least one travel report in Grosshandelssocieteten’s closed LinkedIn group, “Grosshandelssocietetens Alumni”

The Government of the Slovak Republic approved the establishment of the National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic for the support of mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists in 2005. The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic supports study/research/teaching/artistic mobility of international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists at higher education institutions and research organisations. It supports two-way mobility - international scholarship holders to Slovakia, as well as Slovak scholarship holders abroad. The program offers scholarships to cover living costs during the stay and travel allowances (all categories in case of scholarship holders from Slovakia; students and PhD students in case of international scholarship holders).

Your destination country must be different from your country of residence, and from that where you obtained your Bachelor's degree.

The ECB Scholarship for Women is an initiative supporting female scholars from low-income background in pursuing a Master’s degree in the field of economics, statistics, computing and engineering.  

This year, the scholarship will be offered to 15 outstanding candidates who will: 

• Receive a grant of €10,000 
• Attend a study visit at the European Central Bank with dedicated activities, such as meeting with the ECB Women in Leadership Network 
• Gain insight into the ECB’s central banking and banking supervision functions 
• Meet fellow scholars and join the alumni community 
• Receive advice and mentoring from an ECB economist or expert in the field of banking supervision, statistics, engineering or computing.  

To be considered eligible for the program, the candidate should meet the following eligibility criteria: 

• A woman and a national of an EU country; 
• Currently enrolled, or are about to enroll, in a master’s course in economics, statistics, engineering or computing at a European university or business school; 
• Facing a funding gap that may prevent them from pursuing their studies; 
• Completed an undergraduate degree with excellent grades (i.e. for bachelor’s degree)

The Swedish Institute (SI), a government agency, has a number of scholarships open for students from countries outside the EU/EEA area. Depending on your nationality and field of study, the scholarships may apply to you.

The Scholarship for Global Professionals is a competitive fully-funded scholarship that includes: 

• Full tuition fee coverage. The fee is paid directly by SI to your Swedish university each semester.
• A monthly allowance of SEK 12,000 to cover your living expenses throughout the study period.
• A travel grant of SEK 15,000 (*10,000 for scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). This is a one-time payment and does not apply for students already living in Sweden.
• Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP) - a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden.

After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the Sweden Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.

SSE’s Master programs are eligible for these scholarships, even though we are not using University Admissions' application platform. So make sure to apply!

The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Program (AKF ISP) is an opportunity for outstanding scholars from selected countries, who have no other means of financing their studies, to pursue postgraduate education. Established in 1969 by His Late Highness Aga Khan IV, the AKF ISP has supported more than 1,500 students to date.

Award recipients are selected through a global, annual, and competitive application process. The AKF ISP offers a limited number of new awards in each cycle.

The AKF ISP is available in Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Kenya, the Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, New Zealand, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania and Uganda.

In countries, such as Canada, Portugal and the USA, applications are accepted from those who are originally from one of the countries listed above. At this time, the AKF ISP is not available to students who wish to study in the United Kingdom or Russia.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an AKF ISP award, you must:

• have excellent academic records
• hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/professional experience
• demonstrate genuine financial need
• demonstrate a thoughtful, reliable, multi-source funding plan that covers all years of study
• be admitted to a reputable postgraduate institution
• be starting the first year of the program
• have strong leadership potential, professional experience, extracurricular and/or entrepreneurial achievements, and volunteer contributions.
