The Swedish Bank Research Foundation

The Swedish Bank Research Foundation (Bankforskningsinstitutet, BFI) provides scholarships for high-quality academic research in the fields of financial institutions and financial markets.

Call for applications 2026

Individual scholarships for PhD students to cover living costs and related research expenses for up to one year at a time.

Individual scholarships for postdoctoral researchers may also be considered.

Applicants who have received a scholarship may be considered for supplementary grants to cover special research expenses that are essential to a particular project, as well as travel grants. Applications for these grants must be submitted on a separate form.

The size of the grants for the academic year 2026/2027 will be determined by the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its spring meeting. In the academic year 2025/2026, grants for projects conducted over a full year were as follows (SEK):

Doctoral candidates

  • Personal scholarship: SEK 320,000
  • Insurance (health and accident) and retirement contribution: SEK 75,000
  • Research expenses: SEK 30,000

Postdoctoral researchers

  • Personal scholarship: SEK 500,000
  • Insurance (health and accident) and retirement contribution: SEK 100,000
  • Research expenses: SEK 50,000

Applications for grants must be submitted by email to anneli.sandbladh@hhs.se no later than Friday, April 10, 2026. Please include the application form, an updated CV, and, if available, your research papers.

A letter of recommendation must be sent directly by the advisor to anneli.sandbladh@hhs.se before the application deadline.
