Study Economics at SSE
The MSc program in Economics (MECON) emphasizes problem-solving skills applicable across a wide range of settings and provides a strong foundation for your career. Using modern economic analysis and quantitative empirical methods, you develop the tools to analyze complex, real-world problems in public policymaking, private business, and international organizations. The program also prepares you for PhD studies in economics.
With a relatively small cohort, the program offers an engaging and collaborative learning environment. Faculty members are active researchers who are closely involved in teaching and committed to your learning and development.
Program structure
During the first semester, the focus is on the theory and empirical methods of economics. The courses are designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of state-of-the-art models and techniques used in economic analysis. In the second semester, the focus shifts to applications, building on the first semester.
In the second year, you complete coursework and your Master’s thesis. You can take advanced economics courses, courses from other MSc programs at SSE, or specialize in sustainability or data analytics.
You may also take PhD-level courses (subject to conditions), study abroad, or gain practical experience through the Executive Trainee Module (XTM).
Additional opportunities include double degrees with the University of St.Gallen or Sciences Po, combine your studies with the CEMS Master in International Management (MIM).
