Year 1
Semester 1
The first semester focuses on economic theory and empirical methods. The courses provide a thorough understanding of state-of-the-art models and techniques used in economic analysis.
Semester 2
The second semester focuses on applications and extensions. You build on the skills from the first semester and further develop your knowledge of economics.
You can choose elective courses in economics or from other MSc programs. To meet the degree requirements, you must take at least three core elective courses in economics from the list below.

Year 2
Semester 3 and 4
Master's thesis (30 ECTS) within the area of economics and choose one of the following opportunities (30 ECTS):
In the second year, you choose one of the options above. If you decide to stay in Sweden, you can take electives at SSE (including the Data Analytics and Sustainability Track), the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES), within the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) or CIVICA. You can also apply for the Executive Trainee Module and gain hands-on experience at one of our partner companies.
If you prefer to study abroad for a semester, you can apply for the CEMS Master in International Management, the Wallenberg International Fellows Program, or a regular exchange with one of our partner universities.
Second-year MSc in Economics students may also, subject to certain conditions, take first-year PhD courses in economics as electives within their degree.
