Center for Family Enterprise

About

The Center for Family Enterprise (CFE) focuses on research, education, and collaboration within the areas of family enterprise and family office. Family businesses represent up to 90 percent of all companies globally, and family offices are increasingly significant as investors in both established and early-stage businesses.

Together, they are a major force in economic and societal development worldwide.
CFE is fully integrated within the House of Innovation (HoI), bringing the center's work into direct dialogue with HoI's broader research on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Vision

A Nordic center of excellence for family office and family enterprise with global impact.

Our approach

The center's work is guided by four principles, captured in the acronym LENS: Long-term thinking, an Entrepreneurial mindset, a Nordic focus, and Sustainability at its heart.

Research, education, and collaboration form the three pillars of the center's activities.

The Impact of Abolishing the Gift and Inheritance Tax on Firm Strategic Decisions and Outcomes: The Case of Sweden

In 2026, Professor Mattias Nordqvist (SEB Chair in Entrepreneurship and Family Business), Postdoctoral Researcher Mohamed Genedy, and Affiliated Researcher Mateja Andric published a white paper examining how Sweden's abolition of the gift and inheritance tax in 2004/2005 affected the strategic decisions of privately owned companies.

Drawing on data from approximately 37,000 firms, the study finds that firms with potential next-generation successors grew faster, became more profitable, and paid more in corporate taxes following the reform.
