The Scania Center for Innovation and Operational Excellence

About the center

The Scania Center for Innovation and Operational Excellence brings together researchers from the House of Innovation and one of the world's leading vehicle manufacturers to study how business models, ecosystems, and operations evolve in the transport industry.

Grounded in engineering and technology, the SSE partnership focuses on the business and organizational dimensions of transformation. As the transport sector faces fundamental change driven by electrification, automation, and new ownership models, those questions have become central to Scania's future.

What we study

The center's research focuses on how companies in the transport ecosystem innovate, restructure operations, and develop new business models in response to technological and market change. Work at the center connects academic research with real strategic challenges, engaging Scania's leadership as active partners in the research process.

Student engagement

The center has a direct connection to the Master of Science in Business Innovation program at SSE. Each year, Scania presents a live business case during the program's introduction week, which 90 to 70 students work on intensively before presenting their findings to Scania. Students can also choose to complete a six-month company project with Scania as part of their program, and around 10 percent of each cohort does so.

This gives Scania access to SSE's talent pipeline while giving students early exposure to one of Sweden's most internationally recognized industrial companies.
