The Department of Finance is the leading finance department in Sweden with about 20 faculty and 25 PhD students. A large proportion of the faculty and PhD students have an international background. The Department is located at the Swedish House of Finance’s facilities at Bertil Ohlins Gata 4.

Seminars

The Department of Finance organizes two seminar series open to all researchers interested in finance. Brown Bags are informal Thursday seminars where PhD students and faculty discuss ongoing research, while Friday seminars feature invited external researchers presenting their work.
SHoF Mini Courses

Swedish House of Finance offers several mini-courses for PhD-students. These are intensive courses in specialized areas of finance and are typically taught by leading external experts. The courses are free of charge and open to all PhD-candidates in financial economics at Swedish universities.

The Swedish House of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics is Sweden’s national research center for financial economics. We host internationally distinguished researchers and enable financial research and development of the highest quality.

What we do

The Department’s faculty regularly teaches in SSE's Bachelor and Master programs, in general, and the finance specializations, in particular. We are also involved in the MBA program and give courses in several Executive Education programs. Our highly regarded PhD program in Finance is integrated into the Stockholm Doctoral Program in Economics and is also a part of the Nordic Finance Network.

The Department’s research is both theoretical and empirical and covers the main areas of asset pricing and corporate finance. Indeed, our expertise lie within all major areas of finance, including banking, behavioral finance, corporate governance, derivatives, financial econometrics, household finance, international finance, market microstructure, real estate finance and venture capital & private equity.
