The Gun and Einar Larsson Scholarship (GELS)

Do something unique - demonstrate your ability to create impact, gain valuable international experience, and become part of a global network.

About the Gun & Einar Larsson Scholarship

Each year, the President of the Stockholm School of Economics personally selects one or two outstanding students to carry out a self-designed project abroad. The purpose is to equip future leaders with experiences and perspectives that support both their studies at SSE and their future careers.

Many previous GELS scholars began their careers in management consulting and today work as CEOs, entrepreneurs, or leaders of major organizations. Alumni are based around the world, including in Sweden, the United States, Singapore, and Vietnam, contributing to a strong international network. Previous projects have covered topics ranging from food systems to international development and aid coordination.

Designing and carrying out your own project in another country is both challenging and rewarding, while also offering significant opportunities for personal development. By defining a clear objective and desired impact, you will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and perspectives gained at SSE in a real-world context.

As a GELS scholar, you can expect to develop skills in areas such as:

  • initiating and managing projects from start to finish
  • solving complex and unexpected challenges
  • developing an impact-oriented mindset
  • interacting with senior stakeholders, including GELS alumni and local partners
  • working in international environments and strengthening intercultural understanding
  • identifying and developing new opportunities

Previous GELS scholars have described these experiences and skills as highly valuable throughout their professional careers.

About the Gun & Einar Larsson Foundation

The Gun & Einar Larsson Foundation was established in 1999 through a donation by Signe Anetorn Eriksson in memory of Gun and Einar Larsson (SSE 1933), who had been friends and advisers to the donor.

Einar Larsson founded Einar Larssons Revisionsbyrå, which later became part of Deloitte. The foundation is chaired by their son Claes Larsson, SSE (1969), who also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School (1973).
