GaPP publishes five-year impact report
The House of Governance and Public Policy (GaPP) has published its first five-year impact report, documenting the House's development between 2022 and 2026. The report highlights how GaPP has grown into an interdisciplinary platform connecting research, education, policy engagement, and cross-sector collaboration to address today's most pressing governance challenges.
From vision to interdisciplinary platform
Established in October 2022, the House of Governance and Public Policy was created to strengthen governance and public policy research across the Stockholm School of Economics and beyond. During this first phase, GaPP has evolved from an ambitious vision into a structured platform bringing together eight research centers and more than 100 affiliated researchers from SSE and partner institutions.
The report provides an overview of the House's development, its organizational model, and the role it plays in connecting academia with policymakers, business leaders, and civil society to address complex societal challenges through interdisciplinary research and evidence-based dialogue.
Five years of impact
The report documents GaPP's research, educational, and societal contributions during 2022–2026, including:
- 299 scholarly publications, including 160 peer-reviewed journal articles
- 184 public engagements involving more than 6,000 participants
- 25 policy labs bringing together senior decision-makers from academia, government, business, and civil society
- The development of SSE's new Master in Public Policy, approved by the Swedish government in 2026
- The establishment and integration of eight specialized research centers covering governance, education, municipalities, health, migration, security, statecraft, and markets.
Beyond these achievements, the report describes how GaPP has established an institutional model that integrates research environments, strengthens cross-sector collaboration, advances governance-related education, and enhances SSE's contribution to national and international policy discussions.
Research beyond academia
A defining feature of GaPP's first five years has been its commitment to ensuring that research informs practice. Through seminars, conferences, policy labs, executive education, and strategic partnerships, the House has created platforms where researchers engage directly with policymakers, business leaders, public agencies, and civil society.
Alongside its physical events, GaPP has significantly expanded its digital outreach through its website, quarterly newsletter, LinkedIn, and media engagement. Together, these channels have helped disseminate research findings, highlight new initiatives, and connect academic knowledge with broader societal debates. Between 2022 and 2026, GaPP's activities generated hundreds of national media mentions each year, while its digital channels reached thousands of policymakers, practitioners, researchers, students, and other stakeholders. This integrated approach has strengthened GaPP's role as a platform for evidence-based dialogue on governance and public policy.

Looking ahead
The report also outlines priorities for the next phase of GaPP's development, including strengthening interdisciplinary research, expanding policy engagement, further integrating governance perspectives across SSE's educational portfolio, and building long-term international partnerships.
As GaPP enters its next phase, the ambition remains clear: to strengthen governance and public policy through research, education, and collaboration that contributes to more resilient institutions and better-informed decision-making.The report also acknowledges the many researchers, partners, funders, and collaborators who have contributed to the House's development over its first five years.
