Torkel Strömsten appointed interim director of the House of Sustainable Society

An associate professor in Accounting at the Stockholm School of Economics, Torkel Strömsten has been affiliated with the House of Sustainable Society since its inception as Misum in 2015. Since 2020, he has also served as director of the Accounting Frameworks Platform, where he has helped develop research and collaboration around accounting and sustainability.

"I am honored to take on this role and look forward to working with colleagues across the House of Sustainable Society,” says Strömsten. “The center brings together researchers from different disciplines to address some of society's most pressing sustainability challenges, and I am excited to help build on that work.”

The House of Sustainable Society brings together researchers from across the Stockholm School of Economics and beyond to study the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainability. Through its research platforms, the center supports collaboration across disciplines and engages with businesses, policymakers, and society to develop knowledge that can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Martina Björkman Nyqvist will spend the coming academic year on sabbatical but will remain director of the Development and Environmental Economics Platform throughout this period. She will return as center director of the House of Sustainable Society in August 2027.

"I am delighted that Torkel has agreed to take on this responsibility during my sabbatical,” says Björkman Nyqvist. “He knows the House well and has played an important role in its development over many years.”

The appointment ensures continuity in the House of Sustainable Society's leadership while allowing the center to continue advancing its research, education, and external engagement throughout the coming year.
