Clarification regarding media reports

In response to Swedish Radio’s latest reporting on the connection between the Stockholm School of Economics and Jeffrey Epstein, we wish to clarify that the payment from Epstein in 2017 mentioned in the coverage did not go to the School. According to the Epstein files, the recipient was Barbro Ehnbom’s company, Barbros Best and Brightest (BBB) AB.

The Stockholm School of Economics was not the recipient of the 2017 payment. It should therefore not be described as a donation to the School or as evidence that the School received money from Epstein after its collaboration with Ehnbom ended in 2015.

The current management learned of the connections between Ehnbom, Epstein, and the Stockholm School of Economics in early 2015 through inquiries from the Reuters news agency. At that point, an administrative separation was carried out between Barbro Ehnbom’s fund and the School.

This clarification does not change the School’s responsibility for past shortcomings. The School administered Barbro Ehnbom’s fund without sufficient oversight of incoming donations. Since 2015, the School has strengthened its oversight of incoming funds and its donor screening procedures.

The Stockholm School of Economics regrets the distress, discomfort, and suffering that these events and the publicly disclosed information have caused, and may continue to cause, students and alumni.
