CfSR in collaboration with NHH presents a panel on economic policy and security at Nordic Security and Competitiveness Day 2026
In collaboration with Center for Security and Resilience the Norwegian School of Economics will lead a panel with Martin Skancke, Erika Färnstrand Damsgaard, Tore Ellingsen, and Ole Jacob Sending on how economic policy can strengthen competitiveness and security.
The panel, “Macroeconomic drivers of competitiveness and security: The role of stabilization policies and the oil fund,” will examine the economic foundations of a country’s capacity to respond to uncertainty while investing in its future.
At the center of the discussion is the relationship between economic stability and strategic room for maneuver. How can policy help countries absorb shocks while maintaining the conditions for investment and growth? And how should long-term financial resources support the economic strength on which security depends?
Norway’s oil fund provides a particular focus for these questions. The session will explore the relationship between managing national wealth, supporting economic stability, and preserving resources for future generations. It will consider these issues alongside the broader challenge of sustaining competitiveness as security demands shape public priorities.
The discussion will connect macroeconomic choices with their implications for the Nordic-Baltic region. For policymakers and business leaders, the question is how to build an economic foundation that supports both the ability to respond to immediate pressures and the capacity to make lasting investments.
Scheduled for 1:15–2:00 p.m., the NHH panel forms part of a day dedicated to the relationship between economic competitiveness and security.
Nordic Security and Competitiveness Day 2026 take place at SSE on November 16 under the theme “From strategic autonomy to strategic coordination.” The program includes daytime seminars, a student career fair, and an evening event, exploring how closer cooperation can strengthen the Nordic-Baltic region’s prosperity, resilience, and security.
