The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics to lead new Sweden-Ukraine cooperation project
The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) has received SEK 2 million from the Swedish Institute to lead CCT-EU Ukraine with the Institute of Legislative Ideas. The project will help Ukraine develop transparent investment screening and protect its reconstruction and EU accession from corrosive capital.
The Swedish Institute has awarded SEK 2 million in funding to the project Corrosive Capital, Transparency and Ukraine's EU Accession (CCT-EU Ukraine), in partnership with the Institute of Legislative Ideas, Ukraine.
The project aims to support Ukraine in developing a transparent and proportionate investment screening mechanism that protects its reconstruction from corrosive capital, meaning investments of non-transparent origin used to gain strategic leverage and weaken institutions.
The project will begin in December 2026 and run until December 2027.
"The Swedish Institute funds cooperation between Swedish and Ukrainian organisations. Through projects implemented on the ground, we contribute to Ukraine's recovery and EU integration while strengthening resilience in both Ukraine and Sweden," says Madeleine Sjöstedt, Director-General of the Swedish Institute.
"To prevent corrosive capital from shaping Ukraine's recovery, we first need to understand how it works and the damage it can do. This project is about building that understanding and turning it into practical tools that protect Ukraine's institutions," says Anna Anisimova, Project Leader, Researcher at SITE.
