The course explores the significance of historical knowledge in understanding contemporary global issues, offering students a valuable opportunity to travel to Cambridge, London, and Bologna, gaining a firsthand perspective on the global dynamics and historical contexts that shape our world today.

The deadline for applications is November 20th. 

Applied History is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of major challenges in the twenty-first century through historical analysis. The course emphasizes the application of historical perspectives to stimulate critical thinking, research skills, and analysis of contemporary policy issues.

The course is taught by scholars from the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), King’s College London, the University of Cambridge, and Johns Hopkins University. Around twelve SSE students are admitted each year. Teaching takes place in Sweden, the UK, and Italy across several intensive sessions during the spring term of 2026.

The course is funded by the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation for Pubic Benefit, which will cover all travel and accomodation costs.
