Artificial intelligence (AI) is often presented as either a solution to human bias or the cause of new discrimination. But the real challenge for businesses goes deeper: What does it actually mean to be fair? In this Tech Seminar, we moved beyond abstract debates to explore how organizations engage with AI technologies to put fairness in practice. Rather than determining whether AI is “fair,” we focused on the dilemmas that arise when different groups bring competing values to the table, and how we can settle these tensions in practice.
