Nordic Security and Competitiveness Day 2026
The Center for Security and Resilience at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) will host Nordic Security and Competitiveness Day on November 16, 2026. This year's theme will be “From strategic autonomy to strategic coordination”.

Event information
The day will examine a shared strategic question: How can the region become more competitive and more important to the rest of the world, strengthening both its prosperity and its security?
The starting point is the relationship between economic strength and the capacity to act. Trade, innovation, investment, and industrial capabilities can help build resilience and contribute to deterrence alongside military capabilities. Developing these strengths requires cooperation across borders and between the organizations that finance, produce, and sustain them.
The program will explore how closer coordination can translate the region’s resources, expertise, and economic connections into practical capabilities. Discussions will connect strategic ambitions with policy choices and implementation, considering what businesses, public institutions, and universities can achieve together.
The event will unfold in three parts, moving from daytime seminars to a student career fair and an evening program.
Daytime seminars, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
The daytime program will provide a forum for focused discussions on competitiveness, security, and resilience. Sessions will draw on perspectives from across the Nordic-Baltic region and connect research with the decisions facing business leaders and public officials. Time for questions and discussion will allow participants to examine how strategic ideas can be put into practice.
Student career fair, 4:00–5:30 p.m.
The afternoon career fair will connect students with organizations working in areas related to security, resilience, and total defense. It will offer an opportunity to explore career paths, meet potential employers, and learn how skills in economics, finance, management, and innovation can contribute to these fields.
Evening event, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The evening program will bring the day’s broader questions to a shared stage through keynote addresses and discussions. It will consider the Nordic-Baltic region’s position in the world and the opportunities for strengthening its competitiveness and security through cooperation. Registration and networking will begin at 5:30 p.m., with further networking following the program.
Nordic Security and Competitiveness Day is organized by the Center for Security and Resilience at SSE together with Hanken School of Economics, SSE Riga, and NHH Norwegian School of Economics, in collaboration with Akademiska Officerssällskapet i Stockholm and with support from the Anders Wall Foundation.
