Book launch of Stefan Krook's "Laghum economy: a new brief for a healthy planet" - 5 Dec 2025

Marking the publication of Stefan Krook’s latest work, we gathered to examine why today’s sustainability efforts fall short and why a deeper redesign of our economic system is required. Building on the legacy of Erik Dahmén’s call to price the environment, the evening centered on Krook’s argument for embedding true environmental costs into every product, followed by a panel discussion with Michael Treschow, Susanna Campbell, Lisen Schultz, and Stefan Krook on how markets, businesses, and consumers can align with planetary health and long-term prosperity.

In 1968, Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) Professor Erik Dahmén published his seminal book "Sätt pris på miljön" (Put a Price on the Environment). As SSE President Lars Strannegård recently reflected, “Since then, global resource extraction has more than tripled, and what was once a corrective measure now calls for a more fundamen- tal upgrade of our economic system.”

At the same time, as Michael Treschow - former Chairman of Unilever, Ericsson, Electrolux and Svenskt Näringsliv - has emphasized, “Today’s sustainability efforts are failing to deliver. Transformation requires a model where every product carries its environmental cost and thereby empowers consumers to drive markets toward planetary health.”

The launch of Laghum Economy by Stefan Krook was designed as a call to action - an invitation to rethink how markets, businesses, and consumers can work together for planetary health and long-term prosperity.
