Power Play
Drawing on his forthcoming book, Power Play: The Ruthless Rise and Perilous Future of Russia’s Energy Empire, Sergey Radchenko will explore how oil and gas have shaped Russian politics and foreign policy from the Soviet era to the present day. He will discuss the role of energy in Russia’s return to global influence, how the Kremlin has used its energy resources for political and strategic purposes, and what the future may hold for Russia’s energy-based power.
Guest speaker
Sergey Radchenko is the Rupert Murdoch Distinguished Professor at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. A historian of the Cold War, his research focuses on nuclear history and Russian and Chinese foreign and security policies. His books include To Run the World: The Kremlin’s Cold War Bid for Global Power, Two Suns in the Heavens: The Sino-Soviet Struggle for Supremacy, and Unwanted Visionaries: The Soviet Failure in Asia.
