Who gets to invest? Understanding the reality of financial participation
Who gets to invest – and who gets left out? Co-hosted by the SSE Alumni Office and the Swedish House of Finance, this breakfast event explores what shapes people’s ability and willingness to invest, as well as access to careers in finance.
About the event
Conversations about investing often focus on financial literacy and individual responsibility. But what else shapes people’s willingness and ability to invest? And why do some people remain disconnected from investing or careers in finance?
The event will open with a research keynote followed by a moderated panel discussion with industry practitioners.
Bringing together insights from household and behavioral finance with perspectives from industry, the speakers will open a wider conversation about what keeps people from investing, how financial institutions can reach and support new investors, and what the industry can do to create more inclusive pathways into careers in finance.
The session will conclude with an open Q&A and informal networking. Breakfast will be provided.

Speaker
Marieke is Associate Professor (Docent) and Deputy Director at the Swedish House of Finance at SSE and Professor of Finance of Finance at VU Amsterdam. She has served on the board of the Swedish Pensions Agency and as a visiting scholar at Sveriges Riksbank. Her research focuses on individual decision-making in household finance and empirical banking.
Panelists
Christine is an SSE alum and Founder and General Partner at Course Corrected VC. She is also a partner DHS Venture Partners. An active tech and impact investor since 2016, she has experience as both an angel investor and a growth investor in Nordic technology companies. She previously worked in investment banking at Morgan Stanley.

Moderator
Anastasia Girshina is Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance at SSE and Deputy Director of MiDA, the Institute for Micro Data at SSE and the Swedish House of Finance. Her research focuses on household finance and real estate finance.
