SSE Business Lab’s star jury backs 11 new companies

Today, eleven new companies today start their journeys in the Stockholm School of Economics’ prestigious venture incubator SSE Business Lab. Among tough competition these companies managed to impress the star-studded Board of Admissions, with profiles like Lisa Lindström, Sven Hagströmer and Anna Stenberg, with their pitches.

With companies like Budbee, Washaway, Voi Technology, Digiexam and Klarna in SSE business Lab’s portfolio, there is no doubt that the expectations are high on the new companies that are now entering the incubator. Three of the companies are starting the Activate program, an eight-week acceleration program, and eight companies are starting the Incubate program, where they can receive support for up to 18 months.

The majority of the newly admitted companies had mixed founding teams in terms of gender identity, and diversity is also found among the ideas themselves; everything from a solution to measure water levels in the world’s poorest countries with simple and cheap mobile technology, to a new rent-to-own concept on the housing market enabling more people to become homeowners.

Anna Stenberg is one of the members of the Board of Admissions, and Chief People and Platform Officer at Kinnevik who recently received the Allbright prize 2021. She is impressed by the new companies.

"I’m thrilled that we are able to put the bar as high as we do when assessing which companies to admit. The potential in these companies is enormous, and now they have the perfect conditions in the incubator to realize that potential", she says.

The CEO of SSE Business Lab, Julia Delin, looks forward to getting to work with these companies.

"It is always exciting to see what happens when you gather such a wide array of ideas and people under the same roof, and give them the opportunity to help and learn from each other. There is a broad set of different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences among these entrepreneurs, and I’m convinced that they will find it immensely valuable to share learnings with one another", she says.

In the incubator, the companies will get support through coaching, workshops, mentoring, partner network, investor networks and more. All startups with a team member who is a student, alumni or faculty member of the Stockholm School of Economics can apply to the incubator. Read more on SSE Business Lab’s website, ssebl.com.
