Double degree in Finance with Bocconi University

SSE has partnered with the Bocconi University, one of Europe’s leading business schools, to offer a double degree opportunity in Finance at the Master level.

Double degree with Bocconi University

The double degree program spans two academic years. Students complete their first year at SSE and their second year at Bocconi University. The program is available to students enrolled in the MSc program in Finance.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded two degrees: the Master of Science degree in Finance from SSE and the Laurea Magistrale in Finance from Bocconi University.

To graduate, students must fulfill the academic requirements of both institutions. The curriculum combines courses from SSE and Bocconi University, and students plan their thesis work in consultation with both schools to meet the degree requirements of each program.

Double degree structure

Year 1 - Studies at SSE

To be eligible for the double degree program, students must complete 60 ECTS during their first year at SSE.

In the first semester, students take the mandatory courses in the MSc program in Finance. During the second semester, students select four finance electives, including at least one quantitative course.

Year 2 - Studies at Bocconi University

During the second year at Bocconi University, students complete five elective courses worth 6 ECTS each, totaling 30 ECTS.

Students pursuing the Corporate Finance specialization must complete at least two Corporate Finance electives. The minimum requirement for Italian is A2 level, although students may choose to study at a higher level. The selected languages may not include the student's native language.

The thesis requirements differ between the two institutions. Bocconi University requires a thesis worth 18 ECTS, while SSE requires a thesis worth 30 ECTS.

Students complete and defend their thesis at Bocconi University in accordance with local regulations and academic calendars. In addition, students complete a second thesis component worth 12 ECTS under the supervision of an SSE faculty member.

Both thesis components are assessed by an SSE examiner and submitted as a single document under a common title in fulfillment of SSE's degree requirements.
