Marie-Louise Ekman: Quattro Donne in Rosso & Lampadario Scrittura

Quattro Donne in Rosso and Lampadario Scrittura (2024) are two Murano glass chandeliers created by Marie-Louise Ekman in collaboration with Berengo Studio in Murano, Venice. The works were installed in Marie-Louise Ekman’s art classroom Testamentet at SSE in early 2025.

Marie-Louise Ekman is known for exploring everyday life, human relationships, and the absurdities of ordinary existence with humor, directness, and psychological insight.

Between 2023 and 2024, Ekman created a new series of glass works in collaboration with Berengo Studio. Throughout her artistic practice, she frequently returns to recurring motifs such as dogs, books, lamps, women, and men—symbols that also appear in these glass sculptures.

Quattro Donne in Rosso (Four Women in Red) (2024) is a four-armed chandelier in white Murano glass. Each arm supports a female figure dressed in red, with pink hair and black shoes. The work is part of a limited edition of three, one of which is installed in the Marie-Louise Ekman classroom at SSE.

Lampadario Scrittura (Writing Chandelier) (2024) is a six-armed chandelier made of yellow Murano glass. Each arm is shaped like a classic yellow pencil with a pale eraser and black tip. This work is also part of a limited edition of three, one of which is installed at SSE.

Marie-Louise Ekman is an artist, playwright, director, author, former President of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and former Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten).

Both sculptures were donated to the School by the Firestorm Foundation as part of a three-year collaboration between the Foundation and Art Initiative.
