Sara-Vide Ericson: The First Tipii
“Her paintings are created with a natural feeling for Nordic light and spatial composition and evoke a world that is at once strange and familiar. The starting point for her work is often a performance or ritual in which a character takes shape, a character that then assumes a central role in the painting.”

Sara-Vide Ericson (born 1983) studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm between 2004 and 2009. She lives and works in Hälsingland, Sweden.
Through exhibitions in Sweden and internationally, Ericson has established herself as one of the most influential Swedish artists of her generation. Her paintings frequently combine autobiographical elements, symbolism, nature, and psychological reflection.
When recently asked how she would describe her work to someone unfamiliar with it, she responded:
“As representational oil painting, at least from a distance. Because when you get closer, the larger image breaks apart into an expressive, violent puzzle of color, and traces of a frenzied pounding with the brush and other tools. Sometimes with people in landscapes, and often filled with strong contrasts between light and dark. Sometimes I also squirt the paint, so that it builds up body and can rise from the canvas like a topography.”
