Åsa Norberg & Jennie Sundén: Interaction of Colours
Acrylic paint and collage on wool
In Interaction of Colours, Åsa Norberg and Jennie Sundén explore learning through handwriting, drawing, and image-making. From the series Gifts and Occupations
2019
The work draws inspiration from the English educator Marion Richardson (1892–1946), whose teaching methods emphasized the natural movements of children’s hands. Richardson encouraged students to transform letters into visual patterns and images as a way of learning to write and communicate.
Central to her pedagogy were the concepts of word-picturing and mind-picturing, methods that encouraged children to think visually and to translate stories, ideas, and experiences into images.
Through Interaction of Colours, Norberg and Sundén highlight the connection between learning, creativity, and physical action. The work reflects on how knowledge can emerge through making, drawing, writing, and direct engagement with materials.
