Ulrich Rückriem: Ein Stein in vier Teile gespalten
Ein Stein in vier Teile gespalten (A Stone Split into Four Parts) by German sculptor Ulrich Rückriem is part of the SSE Permanent Collection. The sculpture is located beside the staircase connecting Saltmätargatan and Holländargatan.
The work is installed on the foundation of the crane that was used during the construction of the SSE building on Saltmätargatan, creating a connection between the sculpture and the history of the site.
Ulrich Rückriem (born 1938 in Düsseldorf, Germany) is known for his distinctive approach to sculpture, in which stone is treated as a complete form in its own right. Rather than imposing elaborate transformations on the material, he works with processes and tools derived from the stone industry, where he originally trained as an apprentice.
Rückriem further developed his skills while restoring and reproducing Gothic sculptures at Cologne Cathedral. Throughout his artistic career, he has reduced forms to their essential elements, encouraging viewers to engage more closely with the material, structure, and presence of the stone itself.
The sculpture was donated to SSE by Bonnierföretagen, Folkhem, Skandia, SPP, and Stockholms stads brandförsäkringskontor.
