Dan Wolgers: I Am a Rebel, 2024
I Am a Rebel is an orange hand-knotted rug designed by Swedish contemporary artist Dan Wolgers. The motif draws inspiration from humorous and often unexpected answers written by children on school tests and shared online.
The rug is displayed at House of Innovation, Norrtullsgatan 2, on the top floor next to the study spaces.
Dan Wolgers, born in 1955 in Stockholm, is a Swedish artist and professor known for his conceptual and often humorous artistic practice. His work challenges traditional ideas about art and the role of the artist through irony, absurdity, and playfulness.
Wolgers gained significant attention during the 1990s through a number of conceptual projects. In one well-known example, he sold chairs from an exhibition at Liljevalchs konsthall, prompting debate about art, ownership, and commercialism. His work frequently focuses on ideas and actions rather than physical objects, encouraging viewers to reconsider established ways of thinking about art.
Wolgers has also worked as a professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
The rug was produced for the ASPLUND/Åman Art Rug Collection in 2024 as a limited edition of 10 pieces per size. The work is signed and numbered.
