Marie-Louise Ekman: Testamentet
Testamentet—the art classroom created by Swedish artist Marie-Louise Ekman—was inaugurated in fall 2023. The classroom contains elements from the artist’s own studio, as well as several new original works. It is unlike any other learning environment and offers students a unique experience, says SSE President Lars Strannegård.
In November 2023, Marie-Louise Ekman transformed one of the classrooms at the Stockholm School of Economics into an art installation and a unique learning environment. The work Testamentet (2023) includes elements from her studio, with saved objects, tools, memories, and original works arranged as they were until recently in her studio in Södermalm. In addition to Testamentet, Ekman has created several original works directly on the classroom walls, including Dam och klocka (2023).
“Marie-Louise Ekman’s room installation is unlike anything else. It is at once a studio, a highly personal creative encyclopedia, and a collection of school doodles. The room is a museum-quality artwork, and it is a privilege that she has made it possible for our students to experience something so unique,” says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.
Marie-Louise Ekman is an artist, playwright, director, and author, and a former President of the Royal Academy of Arts and head of the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten).
The room was made possible through a generous donation from the Lars Backsell family.
