Art Initiative embeds contemporary art at SSE to strengthen the School’s knowledge environment and enrich the lives of students, faculty, and staff. Activities primarily include the permanent collection, screenings of video-based art, as well as talks and exhibitions by contemporary artists.
SSE Art Initiative integrate art and literature into the academic environment at SSE to support the school’s educational mission FREE: fact-based and scientific, reflective, empathetic, and entrepreneurial.
Art has the capacity to provoke and inspire through artistic expression and to engage our senses. It can enhance critical thinking and create a deeper understanding of ourselves and our societal context. Art Initiative recognizes art as a valid knowledge base in its own right.

Projects include collaborations with leading art institutions in Sweden, such as Moderna Museet, and Bonniers Konsthall; academic institutions such as the Royal Institute of Art as well as a network of local galleries and artists.
Art Initiative also collaborates with the student association Art Division.
Education is about opening doors and increasing possibilities. Art becomes incredibly important to open up your view of the world and serve as intellectual itching power. Our classrooms are artworks in their own right.

The art classrooms, the Heckscher-Ohlin Room, and the Board Room — home to Somewhere Else by Maria Friberg and Konsekvensanalys by Bella Rune — are open by appointment only and during art tours, depending on the booking situation.
