Mattias Öhlund

Mattias Öhlund is a former professional ice hockey player from Piteå. He played for Piteå HC and Luleå HF, winning the Swedish Championship in 1996. He made his NHL debut in 1997 with the Vancouver Canucks, where he played for 11 seasons. During four of those seasons, he was named the team’s best defenseman, and he remains the defenseman with the most goals and points in the club’s history. In 2009, he signed a seven-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Öhlund represented Sweden in several international tournaments and won World Championship gold in 1998. He also competed in four Olympic Games (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010), winning gold in 2006.
