Mission of the Center for Sports and Business
Our mission is to contribute to a more research-driven sports world.
The Center for Sports and Business at the Stockholm School of Economics is an interdisciplinary research center with expertise in management, strategy, marketing, innovation, international business, accounting, finance, and economics.
Together with an international network of academics, executives, and athletes, the center harnesses data from sports, sports organizations, and the sports industry to generate theory-driven research with practical relevance for sports and business.
Sports provide valuable examples of societal learning and inclusion, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The challenges and opportunities present in sports contexts often mirror those faced by organizations more broadly, making sports a useful setting for studying managerial and strategic dynamics. As a result, sports organizations offer high-quality data and valuable insights for scholars seeking to advance theory.
The diversity of sports is another advantage. Because sports differ widely in structure and context, they produce different types of data. This allows researchers to explore a wide range of managerial and organizational phenomena. It also enables the Center for Sports and Business to provide practitioners with nuanced insights into the challenges and opportunities facing their particular sport, industry, or business model.
By bringing together senior academics, early-career researchers, and sports practitioners, and by emphasizing rigor, replicability, and relevance, the Center for Sports and Business works to bridge the gap between theory, context, and actionable insight for the benefit of business and society.
