Interview
Why is education important?
I already have several educations, such as a military officer training, 3 years of university studies, and a European education. Education is not only about gaining more knowledge, but also self-development, extending one’s network of contacts, and developing new ways of thinking.
Why did you choose to participate in the MBA program?
Even though I have one championship in the summer remaining, I have no ambitions to pursue the Olympics or World championships. Instead, I am in a position where I need to decide what I should do looking forward and who I am, now that sports are no longer in focus. I believe that this program is a perfect complement to my background and thus creates a good platform for the future.
What is your impression of the early phases of the course?
It is inspiring to have access to the course’s knowledgeable teachers. Even though we are at a fairly novice level regarding, e.g., economics, we get to learn from the best teachers and professors. It makes a difference and is very fun. I am also a bit surprised by how much the participants have in common and the similarities in experiences, which in turn creates a sense of security.
Are there any differences from what you had expected?
Economics as a subject is new for me, despite having studied it previously. I am somewhat surprised that it is not harder to delve into the subjects and how the strategic thinking developed in the military can be applied in industry.
What is your recommendation to a person deciding whether or not to pursue an education?
I perceive the MBA program to be beneficial for a wide range of people. You do not need to be a professional athlete, but as long as you are committed and interested, it will go well. Commitment is also key to applying the learnings after the program.
