Martina Björkman Nyqvist winner of SSE Corporate Partners' Research Award 2020

Associate Professor Martina Björkman Nyqvist has been awarded the SSE Corporate Partner Research Award 2020 for her groundbreaking work in development economics. Marie Ehrling, Chairman of Securitas, presented the award, which amounts to 100,000 SEK.

The SSE Corporate Partners' Research Award 2020 winner is Associate Professor Martina Björkman Nyvist. Martina's research on development economic focuses on health and education in low-income countries. 

The prize, presented by Marie Ehrling, Chairman of Securitas and member of the Corporate Partnership Program Advisory Board, includes a diploma and a grant that amounts to 100,000 SEK.

About the winner

Martina Björkman Nyqvist has worked on innovative and ground-breaking large-scale and rigorous research projects in Uganda, Lesotho, India and Nigeria. Martina’s research consistently contributes new and important knowledge–as indicated by her publications in high profile journals in economics. Her research has also received substantial public interest, locally and internationally: Swedish television, NPR, New York Times, Foreign Policy, Washington Post, etc. Martina’s research also has policy impacts and has been scaled up and implemented by for example both the government and NGOs in Uganda. 

Martina is also Executive Director for the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (MISUM).

The Corporate Partners' Research Award was established in 2003 to further enhance research at SSE. The award is given to a promising researcher who is successful in his or her area of research and has contributed to the development of knowledge within their discipline.
