About SSE Institute for Research (SIR)

SIR, Stockholm School of Economics Institute for Research is a foundation founded by SSE in 2010 but SIR can trace its beginnings back to 1929, since SIR took over the operations from the former organization EFI. The overall aim of SIR is to contribute to the advancement of the economic sciences through basic, as well as applied, research within a social science context. The research institute has around 50 employees and its research groups are integrated with researchers at the business administration faculty at SSE.

Together the researchers at SIR and SSE can create strong and viable research groups of sufficient size within the SSE sphere. SIR is organized to be a flexible organization for handling externally financed research. SIR is often a node for project collaborations between researchers from different universities in Sweden or research projects together with large Swedish companies. The research is pursued through large and small projects, largely financed by external bodies like VR, Söderbergs stiftelser, RJ, VINNOVA, FAS, SIDA, EU och Handelsbankens forskningsstiftelser.

A second aim of SIR is to publish research results from SIR/SSE, often in a more popularized version. An example is the series Research in Brief published in collaboration with the auditing and consultancy firm PwC. The series aims to disseminate the results of current research concerning corporate enterprises and society at large. PwC helps with both funding and distributions channels for the series which currently consists of 16 books.
