Kjell Thomsen works as an Associate at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he helps clients solve challenges across industries and functions. As a recent graduate, he enjoys the variety that comes with consulting — moving between projects, topics, and teams while continuously learning from colleagues and clients alike.

“What I liked most during my time at SSE was the constant change,” he says. “Whether it was new courses, internships, or studying abroad, I was always challenged in different ways. Consulting gives me that same dynamic environment.”

For Kjell, BCG stood out because of its collaborative culture and strong focus on mentorship, something he says reminded him of the supportive environment at SSE. In his day-to-day work, he combines quantitative and qualitative analysis to generate insights and communicate recommendations tailored to different stakeholders and business contexts.

Kjell chose the MSc in Accounting, Valuation & Financial Management after discovering a strong interest in finance and quantitative subjects during his Bachelor’s studies. He appreciated the program’s balance between analytical rigor and practical application, particularly in areas such as corporate valuation and financial analysis.

Beyond the academics, SSE’s close-knit environment and international opportunities were important factors in his decision.

“The flexibility of the program and the international environment made SSE feel very unique,” he explains. “Through CEMS, I also had the opportunity to study abroad in Singapore, which became one of the highlights of my time at SSE.”

Looking back, Kjell says the people he met at SSE had the greatest impact on his career journey. Through classmates, professors, guest lectures, and research opportunities, he gained exposure to different industries and career paths while building relationships that helped shape his professional direction.

“SSE’s small class sizes made it easy to connect with people and build meaningful relationships,” he says. “That network and support system played a major role in guiding me toward consulting.”

His advice to current students is to make the most of both the academic and social experience — and for international students, to embrace Swedish culture during their time in Stockholm.

“Some of my best memories from SSE are the friendships I built with my Swedish classmates,” he says. “The two years go by incredibly fast, so make the most of them.”

Three words that sum up his time at SSE?

“Rewarding. Inspiring. Coffee!”
