Leadership and Followership in Schools
Does strong leadership from principals make a lasting difference? This project explores how principals’ instructional leadership affects both school staff and student outcomes over time.
Using data from a large sample of Swedish schools over a 10-year period, this project examines how teachers rate their principals' instructional leadership—how well principals guide teaching and learning. The study draws on data from the Swedish National Agency for Education and the Swedish Schools Inspectorate.
The goal is to understand how this type of leadership influences long-term outcomes, including staff stability, sick leave, student grades and graduation rates. By tracking these effects over time, the project offers new insights into how leadership at the top can shape the everyday experience of teachers and students alike.
