About SSE Art Initiative
SSE Art Initiative explores and develops transboundary knowledge exchange, production, and transfers through art and the humanities. We make art exhibitions and symposiums directed towards researchers, students, and the public.
An organization for increased knowledge intensity
Stockholm School of Economics is in its essence based on a scientific knowledge. It enables us to make sense of complex economic and societal phenomena through tools such as measurement instruments, data collection and rational analysis.
Art has the capacity to generate sensuous experiences, provoke and inspire through artistic tools. In combination with the humanities it enhances our ability of critical thinking, and conveys a further understanding of ourselves and societal context. Art Initiative acknowledges art as a valid knowledge base in its own right. By actively integrating art and humanities in the academic context of SSE and in the public debate, we aim at making SSE and society more knowledge intensive.
Collaborations with the art world and academia
To generate a more holistic view of the world around us our projects include collaborations with the most relevant art institutions in Sweden such as Moderna Museet, Tensta Konsthall and Magasin III; academic institutions such as Royal Institute of Art, Royal College of Music, KTH School of Architecture and Södertörn University, and a network of local galleries and artists.
A strong connection to research and education
Art Initiative also actively collaborates with the Center for Arts Business and Culture at Stockholm School of Economics that investigates the role of aesthetics and arts in our economy. Our work founds the base for new initiatives and discussions about how to integrate art and humanities into higher education.
Art Initiative is comprised of a team of arts professionals and researchers, supported by an advisory board from the world of Art and Business.
