ART TALK: SHARING IMPACTS OF ART

HOW ARTHUR JAFA´S VIDEOWORK LOVE IS THE MESSAGE CAN MAKE US REFLECT ON OURSELVES AND OTHERS.

Film screening followed by a collective discussion

Date: Wednesday April 25th
Time: 12-13
Place: Room Torsten

SSE Art Initiative is grateful to several students that shared their emotions around Arthur Jafa’s epic video work Love Is The Message, The Message Is Death, that recently screened in the SSE Atrium. Art speaks differently to each of us and it is when we compare, share and discuss our experiences that we might progress and learn. This question reaches far beyond the subjective quality of a seingle artwork. Our intuitive impressions reflect our own knowledge and experiences, but in a world made up of a multitude of cultures, no reactions and perspectives can be taken for granted. The impact of art may open up worlds, histories and experiences we did not know before.

Arthur Jafa´s work is very appropriate to start discussing what art teaches us about others and ourselves. We start the general discussion by screening Jafa’s iconic work and invite all SSE students and all other interested individuals to join the discussion of the artwork.
