PhD scholarships in Management and Corporate Sustainability at Misum

Misum/Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets at Stockholm School of Economics invites applications for two Ph.D. positions exploring the relationship between management and corporate sustainability.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified students intending to do research which would explore one of the following broad questions:

  1. how corporations and their managers contribute to, and extend, wider governance systems for sustainability and CSR?
  2. how corporate sustainability and CSR are governed by corporations themselves or in the interaction with their environment?

The PhD positions are offered within the SSE Program in Business Administration (240 ECTS) and prepares the candidate to be a successful researcher or to advance into a chosen career. The SSE PhD Business Administration Program offers research areas in: management and organization, marketing, strategy and international business, accounting and managerial finance, and Asian economy and business.

There is no restriction on possible issue areas but Misum is particularly interested in research on issues which reflect the interaction of more than one dimension of sustainability: economic, social and environmental.  Misum is particularly interested in research which examines the organizing and impact of ethical, responsible and sustainable business and their wider impacts. Themes may include but are not limited to Big Data and the Sustainable Development Goals, corruption, business role in migration, green investments, Bottom-of-the Pyramid, organizational identity and responsibility, media and communication studies, sustainability standards, sustainability strategy and value chain management. The research could explore the roles of managers and corporations and other actors in forming and developing these initiatives; the operations and impacts of the corporate engagement; or how corporations manage their relationships with them.

MISUM’s contribution to the study of corporate sustainability and responsible business is organized around MISUM three research platforms: Sustainability in Consumption and Production, Sustainability in Financial Markets and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development, drawing on the expertise of SSE faculty dedicated to explore how business may contribute to sustainability. The successful PhD candidates will be supervised by the relevant faculty at SSE and Mette Morsing, Professor and Mistra Chair of Sustainable Markets.
