Stockholm Seminar on Japan, September 17
The Indo-Pacific is home to several of the world’s most rapidly growing economies and is a crucial artery in international trade, linking Europe to East Asia, via Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. With a significant portion of global trade passing through the body of water, disruptions at key geographical points along the route could have severe economic repercussions. In a longer time-perspective, China's expanding economic influence and its strategic ambition is reshaping security dynamics in the region and has prompted responses from Japan and Europe.
In his talk, Professor Takahara will examine the linkages between Indo-Pacific and European security, especially how Japan and Europe can compete and cooperate with China.
