Wangel, Carl

Carl Wangel is Senior Advisor at the Center for Security and Resilience at the Stockholm School of Economics and a Partner at the strategic communications firm Brightnest.

With broad experience from both the private and public sectors, Carl has held senior roles in government affairs, communications, and industrial development, including as Head of Public Affairs at SSAB, as well as Director of Communications and Public Policy in various organizations. His expertise spans infrastructure, energy, total defense, regional development, and strategic cross-sector collaboration.

At CfSR, Carl focuses on strengthening the center’s national and regional engagement, with a particular emphasis on northern Sweden - a region of growing geopolitical and industrial importance. This includes enhancing resilience in logistics and energy, connecting strategic industries with security policy, and aligning local capacity with national preparedness needs.

Carl is known for bridging strategy, communication, and public policy. He brings a strong ability to connect academic insights with real-world implementation, helping public and private stakeholders build solutions where security, sustainability, and competitiveness intersect.
