Andrea Voyer is a Professor of Sociology at Stockholm University and an affiliated researcher at the Center for Migration and Integration Research (CMIR) at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Her research examines the cultural processes of inclusion and exclusion, with a particular focus on immigrant incorporation and the social dynamics of integration related to the cultural construction of inequality and the mechanisms of social solidarity. Using qualitative and computational methods, Voyer investigates how symbolic boundaries, social norms, and institutional frameworks shape the experiences of newcomers and the communities that receive them.

Her current research includes a project investigating the social integration and labor market experiences of high-skilled migrants in Sweden, and a study examining how the intersection of place and symbolic boundaries influences the educational transitions and social belonging of migrant youth during key school transitions.

Her past work includes the monograph Strangers and Neighbors: Multiculturalism, Conflict, and Community in America (Cambridge 2013), which provides an ethnographic account of Somali immigrant incorporation in a small city, and the co-edited volume The Nordic Civil Sphere (Polity 2019), exploring the evolving nature of solidarity and social membership in the Nordic context.

Beyond her work on migration, she is recognized for her methodological innovation in using computational analysis of normative texts to map long-term shifts in social organization, class distinction, and the dynamics of social inclusion and exclusion.
