The importance of remittances

How important are remittances from migrant workers for the economies of low-income countries? And how does international legislation to prevent illicit financial flows affect the ability to send such remittances?

Anders Olofsgård - Deputy Director at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics - discussed in the latest episode of Sveriges Radio P1-Morgon the importance of remittances to many low income countries, and how legislation to prevent money laundering and terror financing has had unintentional negative consequences on the ability and cost of sending such remittances.
