“Europe’s Growth Challenge” | Book presentation by Anders Åslund

The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics invites you to a book presentation on Europe’s Growth Challenge by Professor Anders Åslund on Wednesday March 15, 10.15 – 11.30.

Professor Anders Åslund was the founding director of SITE from 1989-94 and is currently Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.. Prior to this he has worked at such prominent institutions as the Peterson Institute, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Brookings Institution. His research examines the economic policy of Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe, and focuses on the broader implications of economic transition. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and earned his PhD from Oxford University.

In their new book Europe's Growth Challenge Anders Åslund and his co-author Simeon Djankov argue that Europe is in a serious crisis but that it can face up to these challenges. However, the European Union can only be successful if it carries out substantial changes in the European economic system. They advocate a reduction of the fiscal role of the state, an opening up of services and digital trade, an easing of the regulatory and tax burdens on labor, an improved environment for startups and innovation, pension reform, and the development of Europe's energy union.

The presentation will allow for questions and discussion which will be moderated by Torbjörn Becker, Director of SITE.

The event will take place on Ohlin room, Sveavägen 65, 5th floor., Stockholm School of Economics on Wednesday March 15. Registration and coffee will start from 9.45. The presentation starts 10.15.

Please RSVP until Friday, March 3 via the Eventbrite registration form below.
