Vivek Damani

Bringing Nordic aesthetic to every home! Meet alum and Purchasing Manager at Nordic Knots Vivek Damani, whose MSc in International Business gave him room to further explore his interests in the fashion industry, sustainability and sourcing.

Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis.

I am the Purchasing Manager at Nordic Knots. This means that on a day-to-day basis I am responsible for the purchase planning, purchase orders, overseeing the production and the entire logistics behind importing the products from India to different countries.

What interested you about the field/company/role you are currently in?

The fun part about my role is that there is always a new challenge! Either with production, designing or the logistics of the product. What keeps me excited and moving is that there is always a need to procure something different at my organisation, in order to keep innovating. My role involves finding new suppliers, better products and a lot of negotiations.

Why did you choose to study your subject area at SSE?

Ever since I graduated as a Bachelor student in engineering I was quite excited about the commercial side of businesses. The more I learnt about the this part of business, the more I realised that every company is global in some form and the whole idea of working across boundaries or internationally took me by surprise. To this I felt the need to further educate myself in International Business and that’s exactly when I chose to study at SSE!

How did your time/education at SSE help guide you to the career journey you have embarked on?

SSE has helped me gain many valuable resources in terms of knowledge and more importantly, a great network of professionals. My interests for working with the fashion industry, sustainability and sourcing was only enhanced when I got a chance to take relevant subjects at SSE. The articles we read, the professors that taught us and most importantly the peers that I studied with were constantly adding onto my knowledge base.

What are three words that sum up your time at SSE?

Stressful, yet fun-filled.
