Marc Schmid

Driven by his passion for the tech industry, Marc Schmid, Product Marketing Manager for YouTube Ads at Google and MSc alum chose to study at SSE because of the School's close collaboration with companies such as Spotify, Ericsson, and Klarna. Now he works with large advertisers to show them how YouTube can have an impact on their business goals.

Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis.

I am working as a Product Marketing Manager for YouTube Ads within Google in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. My role involves showcasing to large advertisers how YouTube can have an impact on their business goals. To achieve that, I am responsible for the YouTube Ads appearance on large industry events as well as more exclusive engagements and communication targeted towards large advertisers.

What was your journey leading up to your current role and what interested you about the field you are currently in?

After graduating from SSE, my ambition was to work in the Tech industry because I am very interested in the latest Tech innovations and I believe it's great to be part of a rapidly growing industry. First, I started working at Deloitte Digital, implementing digitalization projects for various companies from different industries across Europe. At Google, I first worked as a consumer marketeer for their smart home products before switching to my current YouTube Ads role internally.

What was so appealing about the MSc Business & Management Program at SSE when you were considering what to study?

For me, a decisive factor to choose SSE was the great collaboration between the university and Swedish (Tech) companies such as Spotify, Ericsson or Klarna.

How did your time/education at SSE help guide you to the career journey you have embarked on?

During my time at SSE, I was involved in many projects in cooperation with companies, which prepared me well for the transition to my career journey afterwards. Also, projects within the student association such as the Nobel NightCap were a great way to try out different skills that would later be required in the business world.

Following your time studying, do you have any words of wisdom or advice you would like to share with our current students?

Besides studying, get involved in one of the student association projects and get to know as many people as you can and - most importantly - have fun and enjoy your time in Stockholm!

What are three words that sum up your time at SSE?

Friends. Rotunda. Inspiration.
