Future-proofing education: EDUCA Flagship as case

On September 19, the Center for Educational Leadership and Excellence (CELE) hosted a seminar with Marja-Kristiina Lerkkanen from Jyväskylä University. She presented the EDUCA Flagship: Identifying research-based solutions for challenges in education, a large-scale initiative funded by the Research Council of Finland.

This seminar was part of CELE’s seminar series, where invited guests present their scholarly work and staff members share projects in progress. The series provides a forum for discussing new perspectives on educational leadership, management, and policy, with sessions held both on-site at CELE's premises at Saltmätargatan 13-17 and online via Zoom.

EDUCA addresses pressing issues such as declining learning outcomes, rising dropout rates, and the integration of digital technologies in schools. It brings together four leading Finnish universities and a broad network of stakeholders to create an innovative research ecosystem spanning education, psychology, sociology, economics, and learning analytics. At its core is a unique data infrastructure designed to support scalable, research-driven interventions that strengthen both teaching practices and policy decisions.

During the seminar, Marja-Kristiina Lerkkanen highlighted how EDUCA's interdisciplinary approach seeks to build adaptive and resilient education systems for the future, ensuring that schools are better equipped to meet diverse needs and prepare young people for a rapidly changing world.
