Sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are integrated across all courses in the SSE MBA Executive Format.
The course combines stand-alone modules, joint sessions, and online learning, supported by preparatory materials. The aim is to build a consistent understanding of sustainability throughout the program.
Participants explore the role of organizations in society and how corporate responsibility is evolving globally. The course takes a strategic perspective and draws on research from the social sciences as well as practical management tools. Case studies are used to show how organizations can manage sustainability in practice.
Sustainable development is one of the major challenges of our time. Issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, population growth, urbanization, geopolitics, and inequality affect both businesses and society.
The course is based on the definition of sustainable development from the UN Brundtland Commission (1987). It encourages critical thinking and helps participants understand how sustainability and CSR relate to business strategy.
Corporate responsibility means that organizations consider the interests of stakeholders such as customers, employees, shareholders, communities, and the environment. It involves integrating social and environmental considerations into business operations.
By embedding sustainability into their strategies, organizations can create value for both business and society. This is often referred to as “shared value.”
Understanding sustainability requires knowledge of global and local challenges, international standards, and different approaches to responsible business practices.
